Anjorin Adaniki, a Deeper Life pastor, and one Mallam Maliu Aliyu, have been jailed for fertiliser fraud.
Their one year sentence was handed down by an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, September 16.

According to The Punch, the two were accused of selling 800 bags of fertiliser to farmers in Emure local government for N3,500 per bag instead of the subsided rate of N2,750.
Sergeant Oriyomi Akinwale, the police prosecutor, told the court that the offence was committed between May and June, 2013 at Emure-Ekiti.

Oriyomi said the bags of fertiliser were released by the government to help farmers, but the accused fraudulently converted them for their own personal gains.

Ademola Okeya, the counsel for the accused, urged the court to tamper justice with mercy.
However, Bayode Owoeye, the presiding magistrate, said converting the fertilisers for their own gains against the order of the government was insensitive, sentencing the two to one year imprisonment without option of fine.
