CAF snub Mikel for Africa’s top player award

Super Eagles midfielder, John Mikel Obi

Super Eagles midfielder Playing for Chelsea, John Mikel Obi has been overlooked for the 2014 CAF Player of the Year after he was beaten to it by Yaya Toure of Cote d’Ivoire the previous year. Despite of his struggled this year for both his club and Nigeria team, he has not been picked among 25 nominees for the CAF Player for 2014.

This happen few month after his defeat by Yaya for the top African football individual prize was greeted by so much rancor in Nigeria. 20 players made the list for the Player of the Year (Based in Africa) category out of 25 players that were nominated for the Prestigious Player of the Year.

Nigeria fan's consolation  is that Ahmed Musa and Vincent Enyeama will now fight it out with Yaya and 22 others for this year’s prize. The only Nigerian who made the 20-man list of Africa-based Player of the Year is Ejike Uzoenyi of Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa .

Ahmed Musa has been in superb form for the Super Eagles and CSKA Moscow in the outgoing year. Both he and Enyeama were the shinning lights as Nigeria reached the last 16 of the last World Cup in Brazil
